Plano was named a 1994 All-America City by the National Civic League and Allstate Foundation for successful implementation of the community's crime prevention efforts, Practical Parent Education, and the City's Children's Medical Clinic. In 1997, Plano was named the 4th most "Kid-Friendly City" in the United States based on the findings of the Children's Environmental Index. The City of Plano was also named the 8th Safest City in the United States based on recent FBI crime statistics. Plano was named the "Best City in the U.S. for Home-based Businesses" In late 1996 by Home Office Computing due to it's telecommunications infrastructure and small business development friendly atmosphere.

Plano History
|
Plano was incorporated in 1873 and chartered as a home rule city in 1961. Until the 1960s, Plano always relied on surrounding farms and ranches for its livelihood. As Dallas grew south and a number of larger high technology companies began to see success in the Plano area, city planners began making preparations for the growth that was looming.
